It is intended to complement the publication of information through scientific publishers by making content freely accessible and searchable across publications. ChemWiki combines the well-established technical platform of MediaWiki with established toolkits from cheminformatics. It enables chemists to create semantically annotated information and to ingest chemical structures, which can be stored as machine-readable datasets. ChemWiki supports chemists in their efforts to create information systems that operate independently of commercial initiatives.
